How to make Oolong Tea – 5 Beverages that you Should Not Miss

by Navvayd Admin on Sep 26, 2020

If you wanna learn how to make oolong tea then read till the end as we will be talking about 5 best beverages you can have today using the same. Oolong Tea is perhaps the least explored type of tea when compared to black and green tea.

This is partly because good quality oolong tea is very difficult to process and manufacture hence difficult to find. The process to brew oolong tea is also a very complicated one. With us, you can get access to two premium varieties of oolong tea – an unblended oolong tea grown in the Darjeeling hills and a second blended variety – rose oolong tea.

Oolong tea recipes originated in China and are very popular in the Far East, especially Taiwan. The taste of oolong tea is actually unique – it has no substantial likeness with black tea or green tea. However, whether it will have any resemblance to any known variety of tea depends entirely on how well it has been oxidized.

The oolong tea we offer to you has a distinctively better & strong taste which is quite edgy. Thus it can be used to create various kinds of infusions with other ingredients.

But before you start brewing your oolong tea, here are a few things you should know

Never go for tea bags in case of oolong tea. Oolong tea is known to have multiple layers of flavours and these flavours unfold as the leaves uncurl while being steeped. This will not be possible in the case of tea bags.

Oolong tea should be ideally steeped in water at 180-200 degree Fahrenheit for 60 seconds to 3 minutes in a covered vessel or kettle.

Remember, oolong tea tastes best when steeped for a short time. So do not over steep your tea. Oolong tea can also be steeped 3-4 times.

2 to 2.5 gm of oolong tea should be enough to brew one cup of tea.

Oolong tea is also highly enjoyable on its own. So you can consume it without flavouring it with sugar or milk or anything else.

If you love to infuse your teas with various flavours, we have 5 unique yet delicious recipes for you that involve oolong tea and it’s also low in caffeine.

Here is how to make oolong tea with 5 different flavours

1. Oolong Tea infused with almond milk, vanilla and cinnamon

Brew oolong tea at 195 degrees Fahrenheit and let it steep for 2-3 minutes. For a glass of this drink you will need 1/4th of a cup of almond milk, ½ a teaspoon each of cinnamon and honey, a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Let the oolong tea cool down and then blend all the ingredients together in a blender. Serve cold with crushed ice.

2. Vanilla Oolong Latte

For this recipe, you will need to brew oolong tea a bit stronger. We suggest you use double the quantity of leaves and allow it to steep for 3-5 minutes. After the decoction cools down, pour it in a glass that already has some crushed ice in it. To flavour, add unsweetened almond milk, the extract of half a vanilla bean, scraped, and a pinch of salt. That is all. Give a quick stir and serve.

3. Maple Oolong Milk Tea

This is a recipe to warm your soul and excite your senses with an earthy, woody feel. For this recipe, you will need to brew oolong leaves and milk together over a pan. Do not overheat. Let it warm slowly and gradually.

For 2 cups of this tea, you will need approximately 600 ml of milk and 4 teaspoons of oolong leaves. Once warm, cover it and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then strain it and add maple syrup according to taste.

4. Coconut Milk Oolong Tea

For a tropical twist to your cup of oolong tea, serve it in this way. Brew oolong tea for 5 minutes in hot water. In the meantime, mix 8 fluid ounces of coconut milk with some chopped lemongrass and microwave it for 30 seconds. Give the mixture a stir and microwave it for another 30 seconds.

Now take two cups and pour 4 fluid ounces of brewed oolong tea in each cup. Strain the coconut milk and pour it equally in the two cups. Add honey to taste. If you wish you may garnish the drink with some lemongrass.

5. Bubble Oolong Tea with Chia Seeds

To make 4 cups of this drink, you will need to brew two cups of strong oolong tea. Once it’s brewed, strain it out and add some natural sweeteners like honey, agave nectar or brown sugar to it. Let it cool at room temperature. Once the tea has cooled, place some chia seeds in each of the 4 cups and pour an equal amount of the brewed tea in each.

You will need to pour enough liquid in the cups for the chia seeds to bloom. This will take about a minute and you will need to stir now and then. Once the seeds have bloomed, divide the remaining tea, if any is left, into the 4 cups equally. Add crushed ice and a dollop of cream on each cup. This recipe is not only healthy but also tasty.
